The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word cryptid as “An animal whose existence or survival is disputed or unsubstantiated, such as the yeti.” For the following witnesses to living cryptids, there is no dispute. In this series of National Cryptid Society’s case files, you will read what the witnesses have experienced in their own words.

Keep an open mind when reading these accounts, and also remember one’s perception and memory of an event can be influenced by the emotions felt at the time of the occurrence. The contributors to this series of articles are doing the best they can to recount what are in some cases very shocking and traumatic experiences.

NCS Case File #12: Imps Invade Family Home

[Location undisclosed] “Well, what I saw were small creatures that infested mine and my family’s home. I’ve seen learned that these are called “imps”. They are about 2 feet tall, are very fast, showed up in the autumn in our home.

This had been my husband’s house prior to my own and he had seen them prior to my seeing them. Our daughter was about 4 when we moved out. Later in her life, she is now 21, she could describe their faces in detail.

Having been small herself, she had a clearer view of them… My daughter said that it was menacing. It had pointed ears, large sharp teeth, a wrinkled, leathery skin and a pig, pug style nose. She said that it had a mean expression on its face.

From Wikipedia: “Imps are often shown as small and not very attractive creatures. Their behavior is described as being wild and uncontrollable, much the same as fairies, and in some cultures, they were considered the same beings, both sharing the same sense of free spirit and enjoyment of all things fun. It was later in history that people began to associate fairies with being good and imps with being malicious and evil. However, both creatures were fond of pranks and misleading people. Most of the time, the pranks were harmless fun, but some could be upsetting and harmful, such as switching babies or leading [travelers] astray in places with which they were not familiar.”

Some videos online have shown imp-like creatures ( in this case, called a “goblin”) in homes. None of which are verifiable and should not be considered hard evidence.
