NCS Case File #54: Bigfoot Grabs for Dog in Brownwood Texas

Location: Brownwood, Texas

Date: 1974

“When I was young my sister and I were coming home from the store, and we would take a shortcut through the woods like we did all the time. We took our German Sheppard with us too. On our way back home we crossed the creek as we always did, and my sister said do you smell that? it was like a skunky smell but worse, almost like Garbage. We didn’t think anything of it, and continued on our way.

Our dog always ran ahead of us. We were getting to the edge of the woods when I saw what I thought was a big fury blanket blowing from behind the tree, almost like when there is a sheet on the clothes line with the wind blowing.”

“I didn’t really even think it could be anything. My dog like I said was ahead of us, that’s when it happened! As she was running by he stepped out reaching for her and she let out a yipping sound, at the moment we dropped everything we got from the store and screamed.

We knew another route home that was longer and we took off running and crying and screaming, we both were running as fast as we could and kept falling down getting back up and not even looking behind us, I didn’t want him to catch me which I’m sure our screaming scared him, but I was scared as I just saw a big ape-like creature standing and it was extremely big, and it tried to grab my dog.”

“We didn’t see where our dog went because we took off in the other direction. When we got home we ran in and told my mom what we saw and she called my dad and told him. Our German Sheppard was nowhere to be found, my Dad got home and headed out to the woods, he knew exactly what it was!! They called them skunk Monkeys.

After going out and looking, he couldn’t find anything but our bags we left behind. it was about a hour or so since our encounter when he went out looking, and we couldn’t find our dog still at this point. My dad got back and the search was on for our dog, He had looked for her while he was out in the woods and figured she ran off because it scared her.”

“At least two hrs passed by this point when they discovered her under the bed shaking and she wouldn’t come out. My dad let everyone know in the area. That pretty much sums up what happened with as few words as possible. This took place in Texas. I was a kid but after that I wouldn’t sleep alone in my room, I was so afraid Bigfoot would get me. My Sister and I remember it like it was yesterday.

We moved to Washington State not too long after. Anyway that’s it. I have told my story many times and most people don’t believe it and are skeptical as you all know.”
