Unidentified Flying Creatures: Eyewitness Account of a Bat-like Encounter in Auburn Ravine, California

I was at the creek with two of my coworkers from a local automotive repair shop. We were testing out our new remote control boats. As the sun began to set, one of the jet boats became stuck in some blackberry bushes on the opposite side of the ravine. Since I had already been in the water, I offered to cross a fallen log to retrieve the boat. After crossing the log that extends from bank to bank directly behind the now dog park and parking lot, I climbed up to the top of the hillside and made my way to the right to a small oak tree grove near the water. As I walked through the canopy, I noticed three sets of piercing, diamond-shaped, glowing red eyes. The creatures were facing each other in a circular pattern, but then turned and stared directly at me. Without a sound, the three human-sized, bat-like creatures simultaneously took flight by opening their wings, which spanned about the same size as their height. They silently lifted off from the center of the grove of trees.

The witness reports an encounter with three bat-like creatures in Auburn Ravine behind McBean Park in Lincoln, Placer, CA, 95648. The sighting occurred in the summer or fall of 2015. The witness was at the creek with two coworkers testing out remote control boats. As they were packing up to leave, one of the boats got stuck in some bushes on the opposite side of the ravine. The witness offered to cross a fallen log to retrieve the boat. While walking through an oak tree grove near the water, the witness spotted three pairs of diamond-shaped, glowing red eyes. The creatures were facing each other in a circular pattern, but then turned and stared directly at the witness. Without a sound, the three human-sized, bat-like creatures simultaneously took flight, silently lifting off with one sweep of their wings.

Auburn Ravine is a large park located in Lincoln, Placer County, California. The park features a creek, playgrounds, picnic areas and a dog park. The park is located in a suburban area and it is surrounded by residential areas. The park’s location is in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, which is known for its oak woodlands, chaparral and mixed conifer forests. The average temperature in Placer county in the summer is around 80°F and in the fall around 70°F. The elevation at the park is around 400 ft above sea level. The nearest water source is the creek that runs through the park.

The wildlife in the area is typical of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, including black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, and deer. 

Sightings of “bat-like humanoid cryptids” have been reported in various locations throughout the United States. These cryptids, often described as having bat-like features such as wings and glowing red eyes, have been reported by witnesses as being human-sized or larger.

It should be noted that all of these sightings have yet to be confirmed by scientific evidence and are considered by most of the scientific community as legends, folklore or misidentification of known animals.

Lastly, in terms of bat-like creatures that are confirmed by science, the Golden-crowned Flying Fox, also known as the golden-capped fruit bat, is a large bat species that is native to the islands of the Philippines. These bats are known for their large size, with wingspans that can reach up to 5 feet, and for the distinctive golden fur on their heads. They are found in tropical lowland forest and mangroves, and feed primarily on fruits.

In conclusion, while there have been many reports of “bat-like humanoid cryptids” throughout the United States and other parts of the world, none of these creatures have been confirmed by scientific evidence. The Golden-crowned Flying Fox is the only bat-like creature that exists with the described characteristics.

The sun was starting to go down and one of the jet boat got stuck in some BlackBerry bushes on opposite side of the ravine just as we were packing up to leave. I had already been in the water so I offered to cross the fallen log to get the boat free from other side . After crossing the log that extends from bank to bank directly behind the now dog park / parking lot I climbed up onto the top of hillside and made my way to the right to the small oak tree grove near the water . As I walked through the canopy instantly I took notice of these piercing diamond shaped glowing red eyes ,and then as I stared up trying to make out what it was I was seeing , two more sets of these eyes were spotted. All three of these creatures had been facing each other in circular pattern but now they were looking down staring directly at me. Without a sound , simultaneously the three human sized bat looking creatures took flight by opening their wings that spanned about the same size as they were tall , silently with one sweep of these wings they lifted up out the center of the grove of trees .
