The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word cryptid as “An animal whose existence or survival is disputed or unsubstantiated, such as the yeti.” For the following witnesses to living cryptids, there is no dispute. NCS Case File #47: Quadrupedal Humanoid Terrorizes Motorists at a Railroad Crossing in Alabama.

“I’ve had several weird experiences in my life but this one takes the cake. This experience opened my eyes to things that aren’t supposed to exist. I still get goosebumps when I think about it.
Me and a friend went on a munchie run late one night. We went the back roads which was a huge mistake. The area is very spooky at night houses are far and few between. There is a set of really rough train tracks you have to slow down to a crawl to cross.
As soon as we started over the tracks my friend starts screaming at the top of her lungs. I look and there’s this thing that looks like man running on all fours. It was black with huge floppy ears and red eyes. I’ve never been that scared in all my life. I saw it as clear as day I don’t know what it was but I know what it wasn’t and that’s human. The terror that I felt was indescribable. This creature didn’t have any good in it.
Its body looked just like a grown man. In my physical education class we did this exercise called a bear crawl and that’s exactly what it looked like. It was moving way to fast though. It had a round head but its ears hung way down and were flapping as it ran. I couldn’t tell 100% if it had a snout if it did it wasn’t long at all. I never seen its teeth but my friend cried when she told me about them. She said when she first noticed it, it was kind of grinning at her.
Its eyes are something I’ll never forget they were so red and they were dead set on us. I know if it would have made it to my car it would have hurt us if not killed us. It wasn’t running that fast just to scare us that’s for sure.
I glanced up in the rearview and there’s a car stopped on the tracks. The thing is squatted down by the passenger door. I never slowed down till I got to the highway. I often wonder what happened to the car behind us. I know they seen it to. I haven’t been down that road since.”
NCS Notes:
- The witness stated that the subject’s body appeared as if it were that of a man and the movement as if it were doing a fast bear crawl. It is not impossible for a human to move quickly in such a motion. Example: Phillip Oliphant of South Africa. The subject of a viral video from this summer, Phillip was mistaken for a “dogman” as he is filmed running on all fours with dog companions.
- Although it is not impossible for a hoaxer in costume to have been observed by the witnesses in this case file, it is highly unlikely that a hoaxer would be on railroad tracks in full costume running on all fours out in the backroads of Alabama.
